What 2D to 3D conversion gives you
Turning 2D into 3D is rarely a mechanical exercise. Plans, elevations and sections were drawn separately, so they often disagree on heights, wall thicknesses or hole positions. As we build the model, every disagreement surfaces. We log each one with the sheets involved and the value we used, so you can confirm instead of discovering it on site or in production.
For buildings, we model in Revit with real wall, floor, roof and family types to the level of detail you need – from LOD 200 massing for visualisation to LOD 300–350 for coordination and documentation. For products, we build parametric parts and assemblies with the tolerances and features in your drawings.
If your source is a PDF or paper drawing, we combine this with PDF to CAD conversion. For building models used in coordination, see BIM modeling services.
Deliverables you receive
- 3D model in the target software (RVT, SLDPRT/SLDASM, IPT/IAM, SKP)
- Model built to the agreed LOD or feature level
- Discrepancy log of conflicts between the 2D drawings
- New 2D sheets generated from the model (optional)
- IFC, STEP or FBX exports
- Quantities or BOM from the model

What we need from you
- 2D drawings in DWG, PDF or scans
- Target software and version
- Required level of detail
- Which drawing wins when sheets disagree
Who orders this service
- Architects moving legacy projects into Revit
- Manufacturers modernising 2D part libraries
- Owners needing 3D models for facility management
- Contractors wanting models for coordination or quantities
Software and file formats
Revit (RVT), SolidWorks, Inventor, SketchUp, AutoCAD 3D, plus IFC, STEP, IGES, FBX and OBJ.
2D to 3D CAD Conversion standards in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia
We set up every project on the standard of the country where it will be built or manufactured. These are the references we work to most often:
| Country | Standards and codes we draft 2D to 3D CAD conversion to |
|---|---|
| USA | BIMForum LOD Specification; ASME Y14.41 for model-based product definition |
| UK | BS EN ISO 19650 and the UK BIM Framework; Uniclass 2015 classification in the model |
| Canada | CanBIM LOD and protocol documents |
| Australia | NATSPEC National BIM Guide and object naming |
How our 2D to 3D CAD conversion process works
- 1Send your files
Upload sketches, PDFs, markups, photos, scans or a model through the quote form. Tell us the standard (US, UK, Canada or Australia) and the deadline.
- 2Fixed quote in hours
We review the scope and reply with a fixed price, the deliverables list and a delivery date. Nothing starts until you approve it.
- 3Drafting & modeling
Your project is drawn in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, SolidWorks or the software you use, on your title block, layers and templates.
- 4QA check
A second drafter checks dimensions, annotations, layer standards, sheet numbering and cross-references against your input before anything is sent.
- 5Delivery & revisions
You receive native files plus PDFs. Comments come back as markups and we revise them quickly until the set matches the brief.
Turnaround and pricing
A house or a simple part family converts in 2–4 business days; larger buildings are quoted by floor area and LOD. Every job is priced as a fixed quote after we review your files, so you know the cost and the delivery date before work starts. See how our pricing works, or send your files through the quote form for a quick estimate.
